Baby on the way? Insure them with confidence

Give your baby the right start

From birth, your child must be insured. Tigura handles everything — basic insurance and the right supplementals — so you can focus on what matters: your baby.

  1. 1

    Before birth

    · Last 2-3 months of pregnancy
    • Subscribe supplementals

Before birth — no health questionnaire required for the baby.

    • Review household & family liability

An extra person in the household changes your contracts.

    • Update beneficiaries

3rd pillar, life insurance: add your child.

  2. 2

    At birth

    · Day one and first days
    • Request the AVS number

      From your canton's compensation fund.

    • Notify your employer

Triggers family allowances (200 CHF / month minimum).

  3. 3

    0–3 months

    · Hard legal deadline Critical
    • Register baby with a LAMal insurer

Mandatory before age 3 months. Retroactive coverage from birth.

    • Activate supplementals

So they run from day one.

  4. 4

    First year

    · You can breathe — a few optimisations
    • Check subsidy eligibility

Based on income, premiums partly covered by your canton.

    • Plan parental leave

Maternity (14 weeks), paternity (2 weeks) — coordinate with employer.

    • Family protection review

We meet again: new household = new needs.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers to the questions we hear most often.

When must I insure my baby?
Enrolment in basic insurance (LAMal) is mandatory within 3 months of birth, with coverage backdated to the day of birth.
Why take out supplementals before birth?
Before birth, some supplementals are accepted without a health questionnaire for the baby. Afterwards, a health issue can complicate or prevent admission.
Can the baby have a different insurer than the parents?
Yes. You can choose the most advantageous insurer for the child, independently of yours.
Are there subsidies for children's premiums?
Yes, depending on household income and canton, premiums may be partly covered. We check your eligibility.
Do you handle the paperwork?
Yes, we manage the full checklist (basic, supplementals, AHV/AVS, notifications) with you, free of charge.
